It wasn’t me

Often, a stranger, or someone I barely know, comments on how cute my kids are. (Sometimes, I’m even fortunate enough to hear that they look just like me!) I usually just reply with “thanks.” But, part of me wants to qualify it. I want to say, “thanks, but I had nothing to do with it.” I almost feel guilty for accepting praise for something I had absolutely no part in. But, I also realize that it’s none of their business, so I just stick with “thanks.”

  1. You could try saying, “yes I think so too” or “they are, aren’t they”.

That’s what I did with my son. I’m his biological mom but it feels weird period saying “thanks”, like I am responsible for his looks.
